Professor Fournier’s Achievements in Education and Research Commended by the University of Ottawa

On December 1st 2016 was held the annual reception of the University of Ottawa to celebrate excellence in education and research in all faculties. Professor Fournier and three colleagues from the Civil Law Section had the pleasure of being honored.

Earlier this year, Professor Fournier’s achievements in education and research were commended, notably as a recipient of the Capital Educators’ Award of the Ottawa Network for Education and as elected Member of the 2016 cohort of the College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists of the Royal Society of Canada.

A Doctor of Law from Harvard University, Professor Fournier is praised for her dynamic and diversified teaching style in public and private law. She teaches courses entitled: “Persons and Family Law”, “Droits et libertés” and “Théories critiques du droit”. Animated by her contagious passion for the Law and her genuine interest in her students’ academic and professional success, she encourages intellectual rigour, dialogue and critical thinking.

As a researcher, Professor Fournier is recognized internationally as a specialist of the interactions between Law and religion, viewed in a feminist and interdisciplinary perspective. A leader in her field, she is frequently invited by national and international organizations to speak on the topic of access to justice for women navigating various cultural contexts in Canada and worldwide. She is considered one of the most reputable academic legal experts of her generation, as evidenced by her empirical field research conducted in North America, Europe and the Middle East and her innovative interdisciplinary publications. Professor Fournier’s most recent publications discuss religion and secular law in France and England, as well as civil procedure in Quebec.
